5 Ways to use the Festive season to your Advantage.

XMAS PICFor many entrepreneurs, the run up to Christmas can be one of the busiest times of the year.  From fitting in various networking events, client lunches, to finishing off jobs that need to be completed before the festive celebrations can begin etc. Below highlights 5 opportunities for you and your business, which you might not be taking full advantage of during this festive season:

1. Client Catch ups

Christmas is a great excuse to catch up with current and potential clients and reengage with old clients.  From a simple thank you text, to a festive email wishing them a nice break, there are very few other opportunities throughout the year where you have a good excuse to converse with pretty much all of your clients, contact and suppliers. So make the most of it and start connecting! Free Agent have listed some good ways to catch up with clients.

2. Look back (as well as forward)

Whilst the run up to Christmas can be somewhat manic, the actual Christmas break can often be a good time to assess both your personal and business life.  Did you achieve your goals this year? What worked well and what didn’t?  During this period, try and keep some time free to think about the past year, which in turn, will not only make you understand your business better but should also make future planning a bit easier.

3. Networking

The Christmas period is undoubtedly the busiest time of the year for networking but it’s essential that you pick the events wisely.  Instead of going to the ones that are full of familiar faces, try and attend new events and meet new contacts.  Forbes have put together a few great tips on how to Network that everyone should know!

4.  Celebrate your successes with your teamteam

We at Inspire know all too well, it’s easy to get carried away with the next steps of the business plan without taking time to reflect on what has been achieved during the year.  One of our key beliefs is that it’s vital for businesses to celebrate when they get things right; not only to encourage staff but also to allow everyone to take a deep breath and assess the direction the business and its staff are going in.

5. Set new goals (and have a fresh start)

Ok so whilst I know New Year’s resolutions technically don’t fall within the ‘Christmas period’, this was too good to miss out!  Resolutions are, more often than not, only ever applied to personal goals but we recommend that no matter what stage of the business you’re at or whatever your yearend is, every Entrepreneur should set themselves a handful of both business and personal goals.  Whether it’s hire a new accountant (Inspire), work less hours or update your software systems, goals help us stay on track of where we want to be; and what better time to set these, than being with your loved ones around the Christmas tree.   Earlier this year, the Insider published a few resolutions for 2016 of some of the most successful entrepreneurs which are definitely worth a read when planning for 2017.
