"Local Businessmen are set to cycle from Bordeaux to Perpignan to raise money for The Boo Charity

On the 9th September nine local businessmen will go ‘Over the Top’ and embark on the journey of a lifetime, starting in Bordeaux and cycling deep into the south of France to Perpignan, all to raise money for the Boo Charity.

The group will be travelling 425 miles over four days, covering up to 137 miles a day. As part of their journey they will be tackling the dreaded Col du Tourmalet, the highest road in the central Pyrenees at almost 7,000 feet. They will also be going through Pau and Carcassonne, locations which, along with the Col du Tourmalet, you may recognise from this year’s Tour De France.

The Boo Charity is a charity established in the memory of founder Russell Hicks’ wife, Sarah, affectionately nicknamed ‘Boo’. Sarah sadly lost her battle to cancer at the age of 36. During her last years she sought alternative treatment in Kenya where she was touched by the compassion and love shown to her. Boo’s lasting wish was to help African Children who are disadvantaged through economic poverty.

Boo’s projects include the provision of food, shelter, healthcare, education, life-skills and emotional support.  The overriding principle & ethos of Boo is to provide children with care, whilst nurturing and developing opportunities to lift them from poverty so that they no longer need to rely on charity.

This trip marks the third year in a row that this group have partaken in a cycling challenge for charity. In 2012 Simon White, Jeremy Gill (Enhanced), Warren Munson (Inspire), David Webb (Matthew and Matthews) and Boo founder Russell cycled from Poole to Paris. The following year, joined by Mark Cribb (Urban Guild) and Peter Moore they rode from Paris to Bordeaux. This year they pick up where they left off along with new additions to the team, Andy Freeman (Sabre) and Mark Northey (Norco). The team have clocked up around 1,000hrs of training, some 16,500 miles. Fitter and leaner than ever, they are set to take on this challenge with grit, speed and determination like never before.

If you want to give opportunity not charity, visit www.overthetop.org.uk and keep on track with these local businessmen and be sure to donate to this worthy cause. For more information on the Boo Charity, visit www.boo-charity.org.uk and follow @TheBooCharity on Twitter."
