The importance of long-standing relationships with business advisers: Evolve to Succeed podcast

Hear from two of our most established clients about their long relationship with Inspire, and why we’ve been their trusted business advisers for so many years.

The Evolve to Succeed podcast recently celebrated its 25th episode.  If you haven’t yet had a listen, now’s the perfect chance!  Launched at the beginning of this year, Inspire Founder, Warren Munson has interviewed entrepreneurs and business leaders across the country about their experiences and he has continued to record the podcast episodes, remotely, throughout the lockdown.

Two of the most recent episodes have featured long-standing Inspire clients, Neil Crespin, Creative Director at MCM Creative Group and Mark Brooks, CEO and Founder at Actipath Programme Management.  Neil and Mark in conversation with Warren both talk very openly about the challenges they have experienced on their respective business journeys, including the importance of skilled and trusted business advisers and how the team at Inspire has been instrumental to many of the decisions they have taken along the way, shaping their businesses.

Neil has been a client of Inspire for over 12 years, and Mark has been working with Warren even before the firm was launched in 2004.

Inspire prides itself on the longevity of its client relationships, offering purposeful, trusted and timely advice to ambitious entrepreneurs and working closely with businesses to really add value.  But Inspire is about much more than just delivering a service to its clients.  Neil and Mark each discuss the importance of mentors in business, someone to be a sounding board, an adviser, and ultimately someone who wants to work in partnership with you, to help see your business succeed.

In the podcast episode, Neil talks about the recession of 2008/09, how his business – which counted RBS as one of its key clients – was drastically reduced overnight and changes needed to be made quickly.    He described how Warren and the team at Inspire were fundamental to keeping MCM going during that time, not only providing financial and business advice, but motivational and mentoring support too.  Neil recalls the biggest piece of advice that Warren gave him in 2009 wasn’t actually financial, but on the overall structure of the business – he advised Neil to take on a MD – which Neil credits as ‘without doubt the most important and best decision that I’ve ever made in the business.’

Meanwhile, Mark talks about his relationship with Warren which goes back before Inspire was even formed.  Warren cites Mark as instrumental in helping him reach the decision to launch Inspire back in 2004.  They have a strong relationship which over the last 16+ years has seen them benefit enormously from each other’s advice as a mentor and sounding board.

Mark established his first company with his business partner, John Sandon-Allum, over 30 years ago.  Voice Integrated Products was a tech start-up which grew rapidly during the 1990s and early 2000s and was sold successfully in 2006, assisted by Warren and the team at Inspire.   Since then, Mark has bought, developed, run and sold many successful businesses, continuing to work closely with the Inspire, including with his latest company, Actipath Programme Management.
